Colored Belts System
At Silicon Valley Kung Fu Academy, we like to use the colored belt system. While in China where Kung Fu originated, there is no such measure, we feel that belts are a good way to break down the great number of techniques that would otherwise be very intimidating. We have also noticed that advancing through belts system gives our students a concrete goal to constantly strive for and is a great motivator. Our instructors also use the belts as a tool to create lesson plans that will better suit our students.
We break our course up into 4 levels with 5-6 belt levels between each. Our beginner's class will focus on kung fu fundamentals and basics, such as the various stances, hand moves, and kicks. This class will build the foundation for more advanced techniques later on.
Our intermediate and advanced classes will introduce greater complexity with harder forms and more difficult weapons. These classes are designed to improve and perfect the skills the student has already learned. Students in these levels are held to a higher standard and expectation and will be role models for our less experienced students.
Once a student has reached mastery (black belt), it will then be up to the student to decide his or her own path. He or she will be given the chance to pick any weapons or forms to learn. These students' final destination will be Shaolin Kung Fu's most highly regarded weapon, the double-hand straight sword.
For more in-depth detail on the belts and what each specific belt will teach, please refer to our Curriculum pages.
